Did you know that 75% of job seekers NEVER hear back from the companies they submit applications to? Did their ATS bounce them out for good reason or for no reason? They never got a look, but one thing is clear in this arena, EVERYBODY is looking to hire the best talent and complaining about the lack of available good candidates.
Last night I was talking to a colleague of mine who is searching for a new job. He is extremely qualified as a sales executive. Proven Track Record. Proven ability to sell enterprise technology and true consultant when it comes to efficiency, redundancy, security—regardless of the industry. Not to mention, one of the best sales guys I know. I would put him up against anyone in any industry, any time.
And yet, he has been to multiple job boards, applied for several positions, and yet, not ONE call back or so much as a reply indicating his application has been received and is under review. How can this be? What ATS would bounce a guy with his credentials without so much as a call. Or is it the recruiter inside the company who doesn’t have a good process, or the time, to talk to every candidate that comes across his plate.
Time Kills, Speed Wins
The biggest challenge our clients have is, first, they make everyone fill out an application before they will even have a conversation, and second, the time it takes them to return contact to an applicant is too long. The first ones to get back to applicants will win, otherwise, they move on to something else, and someone who will acknowledge and talk to them.
Sell Them on You
If you haven’t noticed, there is a talent war going on in our low unemployment economy. Forcing a candidate to do paperwork before they even learn about you is not a good strategy. Your web site can share some insight, but having a real conversation with a real human being that can sell them on why your company is better than the others is a much better strategy.
Job Boards Are Dying
Put your resume out there. Apply online. Wait… Hope is not a strategy—for employers or applicants. Without human-to-human interaction, how are you learning anything real about the candidate or vice versa, how do they learn anything real about you?
So, his response is, “I’m never going to another job board. Ever. They need to stop wasting everyone’s time.”
